So you have started running and have honed your skill which allows you to run for longer periods of time without breaking a sweat. In order to break the tedium, you may want to spice things up with your running activity. One of them is by joining a marathon race which can help revitalize your drive to run longer. Joining a racing event is also a good opportunity to meet new individuals who share the same passion in running. Let us look at the 2018-2019 half marathon race calendar.
Why Half Marathon?
A standard marathon race has an official distance of 42.195 kilometres or 26.219 miles. On the other hand, a half marathon race just as their name implies covers half of the distance running at 21.0975 kilometres or 13.1094 miles. If you are a newcomer who has taken interest in joining racing events, a half marathon race will be a good introductory piece that can help you prepare for the full course in the future. January
January is always a great month to participate in racing events. It’s the start of the year and people are motivated to engage in a variety of physical activities. For that matter, you often find more during this time. Among the notable races that happen on January which includes the Brazen New Year’s Day Half Marathon happening on January 1st at Castro Valley CA. On the 12th there are two racing events with the Southern California Half Marathon & 5K and Charleston Marathon Half Marathon & 5K that happens on the same day at Irvine CA and Charleston SC respectively. There is also a 3M Half Marathon that will be held on January 20 at Austin TX.
February
This month is considered to be a much slower month compared to January. With that being said, there are still a number of racing events that are happening on this month. Death Valley Marathon Half Marathon and 10K will start on February 2. On the 9th you will see Sprouts-Mesa Phoenix Marathon Half Marathon & 10K and Austin Marathon & Half Marathon on the 17th.
March
The spring season is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate this is by joining a number of marathons during this month? March races consist of The Woodlands Marathon Half Marathon 5K & Relay on the 2nd. Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon Half Marathon & 5K is a popular racing event that happens on the 9th of March. There is also the Pride Run Phoenix Half Marathon 10K & 5K that is also happening on the 23rd.
April
The Oak Barrel Half Marathon and Great Bay Half Marathon on the 6th and 7th of April. The Salt Lake City Marathon Half Marathon & 5K will also be held on the 13th. If you are looking for a unique racing theme, the Flying Pirate Half Marathon will be happening on the 14th at Kitty Hawk NC.
May
May’s racing event is off to a great start with Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon on the 6th at Weott CA. The Maine Coast Half Marathon will also be happening a few days from this at Biddeford ME on the 12th. The Hibiscus Half Marathon 15K & 5-Mile can also be experience on the 27th at Honolulu HI.
June
The spring season has started and this is the perfect weather to join a racing event. You will find the Dam to Dam Half Marathon on June 2nd at Des Moines IA. Another Rock ‘n’ Roll racing event and will be happening at Seattle WA on the 10th of June.
July
More races are held during July starting with the Red White & Boom! TC Half Marathon on the 4th of July at Minneapolis MN. If you missed the Rock ‘n’ Roll racing event, you may be pleased to hear that a similar event will be held at Chicago IL on the 22nd.
August
Start the month right with the Minnesota Half Marathon & 5K on August 4 at St. Paul MN. America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K will be happening on the 19th of August at San Diego CA. Finally the Blueberry Cove 13.1 Half Marathon will be held at Tenants Harbor ME on the 26th.
September
There is a lot to look forward on September with the American Discovery Trail Marathon Half Marathon & 10K on the 3rd at Colorado Springs CO. There is also the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon & Navy 5-Miler at Washington DC on the 16th. Last but definitely not the least is the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K happening on the 23rd.
October
October has a lot of going on with the Bay Ridge Half Marathon on the 1st at Brooklyn NY, Newport Half Marathon on the 7th, and Baltimore Running Festival Marathon Half Marathon & 5K on the 20th.
November
November 4th is when the Malibu Half Marathon & 5K will be happening and will be followed by Griffith Park Trail Half Marathon at Los Angeles CA on the 10th. The Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon on 25th will be held at Cocoa FL.
December
End the year with a bang with Kiawah Island Golf Resort Half Marathon and Rehoboth Beach Seashore Half Marathon that are happening on the 8th of December. Finally there is the Jeff Galloway 13.1 Half Marathon on the 9th at Atlanta GA which you can partake before vacation.
Looking at the half marathon calendar is important as this will help give you to some extent an overview on the races that are happening around the area. This in turn allows you to prepare and condition your body for the upcoming race. It should be noted that conditioning plays a huge role in the success of every racing event that you will be participating. In fact, runners often prepare weeks before the event maximizing the results of their training as a result.
